A Man Called Adam – Barefoot In The Head.

A Man Called Adam – Barefoot In The Head. Original and remix 12 inch singles.

Barefoot In The Head is one of those rare tunes that is great to chill out to at home as well as throw some shapes to at a rave, and believe me I’ve done both of those things many a time whilst listening to this record!

Something about this track just seems to capture that Balearic vibe of the late eighties and nineties and conveys feelings of blissfully dancing on a Mediterranean beach as the sun begins to rise, even if you’ve never been to Ibiza before.

A big part of that is down to the brilliantly used sample of Rod McKuen’s spoken word vocal from The Gypsy Camp, taken off of The Sea album by his project, The San Sebastian Strings.

I put a seashell to my ear and it all comes back. The yellow sun. The Mediterranean blue of the sky. The children running on the beach that day.

Rod McKuen

However, it’s the combination of that sample along with Sally Rodgers’ beautiful vocals melded perfectly to some sublime music that made this record stand out from everything else at the time and remains a benchmark for anyone making records in this style even today.

Barefoot In The Head is in all sense of the phrase, what you’d call a timeless classic.

When my memory wonders, as it does when bad things happen. I put a seashell to my ear and it all comes back. That day. You.

Rod McKuen
