Doves – Black And White Town.

Doves – Black And White Town. Limited edition 7 inch single.

Doves came to be in a rather unusual fashion.

Band members Jimi Goodwin and Andy and Jez Williams had originally recorded as dance act Sub Sub in the first half of the nineties. They had moderate success and scored a number 3 hit with Ain’t No Love (Ain’t No Use) featuring singer Melanie Williams.

After a fire destroyed their recording studio in 1996 the trio were forced start afresh and decided on taking a more guitar based, indie rock direction. The move was hugely successful and resulted in their first two albums as Doves being nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.

Black And White Town, taken from their chart topping third album Some Cities, reached number 6 in the UK singles chart in 2005 and featured in coverage of the Six Nations rugby tournament that year. It was also licensed for use by EA Sports and will no doubt be familiar to anyone who played FIFA 06 all those years ago!

The 7 inch single shown here features the aptly named track, 45 on the B-side and comes in a sleeve that folds out into a poster of the cover artwork.
